Review: Marvel's Agents of SHIELD S3E2 "Purpose in the Machine"

This show just keeps getting better and better. People who gave up on it during the slow first season, get back on it. Now. You don't know what you're missing.

Review: Gotham S2E3 "The Last Laugh"

Gotham just keeps getting better and better. This season's theme is "rise of the villains" and we're really getting a taste of what that means. There's not much to say without giving away plot twists, so let's go below the fold for spoilers.

Review: Marvel's Agents of SHIELD S3E1 "Laws of Nature"

A lot of people bailed on Marvel's Agents of SHIELD during its admittedly shaky first season. None of the fans knew it at the time, but the uneven pacing of the first half of season one were entirely due to the need for the show to link up with the release of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Once that big reveal happened, the show really picked up.

The second season was consistently good and well paced, and if the third season premier is any indication of how the rest of the season will go, it's going to continue the trend. And this despite the fact that it is absolutely, clearly, and undeniably setting up the events of next year's Captain America: Civil War. And 2019's Inhumans.

Review: Gotham S2E2 "Knock, Knock"

A lot of people didn't like the first season of Gotham, saying that it was campy, or uneven, or poorly plotted. I was not one of them. I liked the show from the beginning, because I felt the best way to look at it was not as a Batman prequel (which is how it's been marketed) but as a police procedural/ mobster show with really quirky characters.

The second episode of the new season, "Knock, Knock" picks up where the first episode left off. A bunch of the worst of Arkham Asylum's inmates have been broken out in order to form a team whose antics are apparently intended to throw Gotham into chaos for its own sake. I'm sure that the mastermind behind it all, Theo, will have some broader plan in mind, but for right now we're going for chaos.
